"where there's fire, there's smoke,...where there's smoke, there's,...FIIIYAAA!"
From the great band in the 70's, The Ohio Players.
There's a fire slowly burning and it's about to catch on big time in the ATL.
What is this? A rookie QB who isn't shell-shocked after 9 games? Winning a game in which the opposing QB passes for over 400 yards? Solid coaching? Who are these Falcons? Don' they know they're supposed to lose games like yesterday's battle?
Week after week, we hear the experts say that opposing teams will shut down the Facons run game and make Ryan beat them. Might be time to rethink that strategy.
The Saints are probably one of the best 4-5 teams in the NFL. Injuries have decimated this team though and it got worse for them yesterday. I feel for Saints fans as we've been through the injuries before and will again in the future. It's a hard fact of life in the NFL.
Early on things worked for the Saints defense. Their superb LBs were stopping Turner and forcing the 3rd and longs but when it was put in Ryan's hands,...he was superb as well. That's the reason the Falcons went up 17-6 at the half, along with some bend-but-don't-break defense.
This is kind of surreal,...a territory we rarely venture into,...being 6-3 and looking for a playoff berth is just,...I dunno, really don't know what to say. Well, it can be said it feels pretty damn good.
We host the Broncos and then the Panthers before going back to California to face the Chargers. Imagine the Falcons being 7-4 before that trip to San Diego. Imagine being 7-3 and having the NFC South Division leader walk into the Dome in two weeks. You talk about some serious divisional stuff a goin on!
